Parent Teacher Association: Role

We are fortunate to have an active Parent Teacher Association (PTA) which promotes the welfare of and general interest in the school. The activities and enthusiasm of the committee foster links between school and home, thereby strengthening pupil/school/parent co-operation.

The committee is elected at the association’s annual general meeting which is held at the school each September/October. Membership of the committee includes eight elected parent representatives (preferably four male and four female) as well as the clergy. Teachers are ex-officio members.

Two parents are elected triennially as representatives on the school’s Board of Management, while two parents are elected annually to represent the school on the National Parents’ Council – Primary.

The association plays a vital role in the life of the school in a number of ways. Its financial support through regular fund-raising has resulted in continual improvement of the resources and facilities at the school, thereby enhancing the quality of education which the children receive. The PTA is actively involved with special projects such as the school building extension, as well as providing on-going help with the school library, sports activities, playground supervision and the annual school fun day which is held at the end of term 3.

The association arranges social events such as coffee mornings, bowling evenings and table quizzes as well as evening meetings to which guests are invited to speak on subjects of particular interest to parents and teachers, such as Helping with Homework, Selecting Books for Children, Substance Abuse, etc.

All parents are encouraged to take an active part in the PTA and to support the wide range of activities and projects arranged throughout the school year.
