Home and School Communication

Parents/guardians from each class have an opportunity to meet the principal and their child’s class teacher, as well as each other, early in the autumn term. Separate meetings for each class are held during September. Individual parent/teacher consultations are held later in the year when each pupil’s progress is reviewed in detail.

Eight separate meetings are held at the beginning of each year at which the principal, class teacher and PTA representatives meet with the parents of each separate class. General school issues as well as those specifically relevant to the class are discussed, and provisional plans for special projects are agreed.Through the Primary School Curriculum, the school strives to nurture the spiritual, moral, cognitive, emotional, imaginative, aesthetic, social and physical dimensions of each child.

Parents/guardians who wish to meet the principal or a class teacher at any time to discuss their child’s progress or any school-related matter are always welcome. All appointments should be made in advance, stating the purpose of the meeting, so that both parties can be fully prepared.

There are two parents representatives on the Board of Management. They share equal representation with patronal, teacher and community representatives. Home/school communication is also supported by the Parent Teacher Association (PTA). As well as class representatives, there are eight parent representatives on the PTA committee (4 male and 4 female). They act as a additional communication link, and assist in maximising access to information between home and school.

Newsletters are issued each term. They include updates on school news as well as noting forthcoming events, reminders on school policy and Board of Management and PTA news.

Circulars and notes are often sent home with the children and each child has a 'post pouch' for his/her school bag. Such correspondence is sent via the youngest school-going child from each family. While this system is usually extremely efficient, school bag checks are recommended to avoid lost or mislaid post!

Comprehensive reports on each pupil are provided at the end of each school year.
