About our Aims and Objectives

St Patrick's National School aims to provide a safe, caring, happy and disciplined environment where children's self-esteem, self-confidence, initiative and innovation can be nurtured within an atmosphere of mutual respect and appreciation.

Through the Primary School Curriculum, the school strives to nurture the spiritual, moral, cognitive, emotional, imaginative, aesthetic, social and physical dimensions of each child.

Individuality

Uniqueness is valued through each child’s personality, intelligence and development potential. Throughout the curriculum and beyond, individual talents, interests and potential are recognised, encouraged and celebrated, while children are taught the value of mutual support and encouragement. In addressing the individual needs of each child, teachers endeavour to support and help those who find achievement to be more challenging.

Educational Proficiency

Pupils are encouraged to reach their full educational potential, by developing intellectual skills combined with a spirit of inquiry and the capacity to analyse issues critically and constructively, while developing expressive, creative and artistic abilities. Children are encouraged to be active in their own learning. Pupils’ achievement and development is constantly monitored and assessed throughout the school and regular parent/teacher consultation is promoted. Children’s special needs are prioritised and given the maximum possible attention.

Cultural Appreciation

An understanding and appreciation of the moral, spiritual, religious, social and cultural values which shape our society is promoted and respect for such values is fostered. An awareness of national and European heritage is nurtured, the children developing a deep sense of Irish identity within a European and worldwide context. Children from other cultural backgrounds are welcomed, and cultural and linguistic differences are respected and celebrated.

Care for Self, Others and the Environment

Children are actively encouraged to care for themselves, their families and friends and their environment. Priority is placed on the development of a sense of personal and joint care and responsibility - both within the school, family, parish and wider community. A keen sense of personal, social and environmental responsibility is promoted.
