Art and Crafts

Art and Crafts classes are available in the school each Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon. Work done by the group is regularly displayed in the GP room.

Bodhrán

Following an introductory day for the whole school, bodhrán classes were introduced to pupils in First – Sixth Classes as an optional after-school activity in September 2001. They have been extremely popular and the children involved are now preparing for a weekend workshop that will include joining adult players at a real seisiún! A number of the children will also represent the school at Feis Ceoil.

Chess

Chess is co-ordinated in the school by a parent from the PTA. The game is promoted in a number of ways:

•  Chess Master classes* are available in the school each Monday afternoon.
•  A Chess Club is held in the school each Thursday afternoon.

A number of teams represent the school in the annual ESB Checkmate inter-schools’ competition, organised by Scholastics Chess Ireland.

Choir

A school choir was recently established, and they sang at the Christmas play in the Church in December 2001. The choir is organised by Ms Kelly (Resource Teacher). It currently involves pupils from Third and Fourth Classes, but it is intended to expand the group in the near future.

Speech and drama

Classes are available in the school each Thursday afternoon. The children involved are prepared for Irish Board of Speech and Drama examinations.
